Acoustic performances that speak to your heart

"Music For The Heart"

About Graham

My name is Graham and I have been involved with music for over 36 years, working throughout Berkshire, Surrey, Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire. I am based in Wokingham and have been performing as Greenman Folk since 2008. My sets include a mixture of guitar accompaniment and a capella songs interspersed with stories and I believe each performance should connect with anyone listening.

Music seems to have been part of life from an early age. The forms of music that told a story attracted me most leading to developing my own stories. My influences were bands like Liverpool’s own Spinners, Dorset’s The Yetties and the Corries from Scotland. Not forgetting Steeleye Span. Individuals such as John Cash, John Denver, Dolly Parton, Jim Reeves, Neil Dimond, Jasper Carrot, Max Boyce and many more have added to my view of what a performance should be and what it should bring to each listener. I put the listener at the heart of every performance I do and I find that people like to sing along to the chorus of well-loved songs such as the “Wild Rover “, “The drunken Sailor” ,“I love you because” and “Scarlett Ribbons”.

Sharing stories and spreading joy

Bringing live music to those people that can't go out and experience it is a real pleasure and I love to help brighten people's day when I can. As well as regular acoustic folk or country music performances, I can also provide a Troubadour Performance.

A troubadour originally was a musician who roamed the country performing at Markets and Manors. In the same way, I travel from room to room for those who would like live music, but cannot get to the main performance area. These performances provide stimulation and a break in the day, albeit a brief interlude for a person who is bedbound. The performance consists of a little chat and three songs in each room.

My performance is acoustic, as I find a microphone prevents me from movement and interaction with the audience. On return visits you can send requests that I will endeavour to learn. A few of the songs that have been requested in the past are “Singing the Blues”, “Wonderful World”, “D Day Dodgers” and “Moon River”. I offer a range of country music and folk music intersperses with stories.

Booking a local musician that cares

If after the first full price gig you place 5 more bookings together covering a twelve-month period, then I will provide a complementary show. (please note complementary shows are not available in December or the first week of January) Availability in general is: Morning sets Monday to Sunday and Afternoon Thursday to Sunday. Evening shows can be arranged and I am available for performances in pubs, clubs, entertainment venues and festivals.

Bringing music to care homes

I love audience interaction and to know that I am making a difference with my music and stories. My set usually lasts an hour, but I like to arrive a little early to set up and talk to the audience as they arrive and a cuppa and a chat afterwards is always a pleasure. I believe music is about bringing people together in any situation.
